UPSC has announced Civil Services (Preliminary) 2021 Examination:

Today (04/03/2021) UPSC has issued the Examination notice for Civil Services, 2021 examination as well as Indian Forest Services, 2021  Preliminary Examination, For which the LAST DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS is  24/03/2021 of CIVIL SERVICES EXAMINATION, 2021 & Indian Forest Services Examination, 2021

Age Limit:

Civil Services: Minimum- 21 Years, Maximum- Not more than 32 Years

* Age Relaxation for some categories will be provided as per rules

 

Eligibility: -

Civil Services: A candidate must hold a degree of any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification.

Application Form Fee: 

Civil Services: Candidates (excepting Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay the fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred only) either by remitting the money in any Branch of State Bank of India or by using Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/Debit Card or by using Internet Banking of SBI. Applicants who opt for "Pay by Cash" mode should print the system generated Pay-in-slip during part II registration and deposit the fee at the counter of the SBI Branch on the next working day only.

SECTION I: PLAN OF EXAMINATION 

The Civil Services Examination comprises two successive stages:

(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Civil Services (Main) Examination; and 

(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview/Personality Test) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts. 

The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 400 marks in the subjects set out in subsection

(Main) Examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper-II of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination and total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper-I of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination as may be determined by the Commission.

The Civil Services (Main) Examination will consist of a Written Examination and an Interview/Personality Test. The Written Examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects set out in subsection (B) of Section-II out of which two papers will be of qualifying in nature. Marks obtained for all the compulsory papers (Paper-I to Paper-VII) and Marks obtained in the Interview/Personality Test will be counted for ranking.

 

SECTION II: 

Scheme and subjects for the Preliminary and Main Examination              

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION: The Examination shall comprise of two compulsory Papers of 200 marks each. 

Note: (i) Both the question papers will be of the objective type (multiple choice questions) and each will be of two hours duration.

(ii) The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%. 

(iii) The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English. 

MAIN EXAMINATION:

The Written Examination will consist of the following papers: - Qualifying Papers:

Paper‐A (One of the Indian Language to be selected by the candidate from the Languages included in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution) - 300 Marks 

Paper‐B English -300 Marks

Papers to be counted for merit: 

Paper‐I Essay - 250 Marks

General Studies‐I -250 Marks (Indian Heritage and Culture, History and Geography of the World and Society)

Paper‐III General Studies‐II - 250 Marks (Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice and International relations) 

Paper‐IV General Studies‐III -  250 Marks (Technology, Economic Development, Bio-diversity, Environment, Security and Disaster Management)

Paper‐V General Studies‐IV  -  250 Marks (Ethics, Integrity and Aptitude)

Paper‐VI Optional Subject‐Paper 1- 250 Marks 

Paper‐VII Optional Subject‐Paper 2   - 250 Marks 

Sub Total (Written Test) - 1750 Marks 

Personality Test -  275 Marks 

Grand Total - 2025 Marks

Syllabus for Civil Services: 

Part A—Preliminary Examination Paper I‐(200 marks) 

Duration: Two hours  

Current events of national and international importance.  

History of India and Indian National Movement.  

Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.  Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.  

Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.  

General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialization.  

General Science. Paper-II‐(200 marks) 

Duration: Two hours Comprehension; Interpersonal skills including communication skills; Government strives to have a workforce that reflects gender balance and women candidates are encouraged to apply. 

Logical reasoning and analytical ability; Decision making and problem-solving; General mental ability; Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. — Class X level); 

 

QUALIFYING PAPERS ON INDIAN LANGUAGES AND ENGLISH

The aim of the paper is to test the candidates' ability to read and understand serious discursive prose and to express ideas clearly and correctly, in English and Indian language concerned. The pattern of questions would be broad as follows : 

(i) Comprehension of given passages. 

(ii) Precis Writing.

(iii) Usage and Vocabulary. 

(iv) Short Essays.

Examination Date:  The Union Public Service Commission will hold a Screening Test for selection to Indian Forest Service (Main) Examination, 2021 through Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2021 which will be held on 27th June 2021.
