Bhawna Jat - The Daughter of Rajasthan and Indian Race Walker

About Bhawna Jat:

Bhawna Jat is an athlete and Indian race walker. Bhawna created a national record in the 20 km race walk in a record time of 1 hour 29 minutes and 54 seconds. She made this record in February 2020 and qualified for Tokyo Olympics 2020. To qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, the racers had to complete the race in 1 hour and 31 minutes.

Early Life and Family of Bhawna Jat:

Bhawna Jat was born at Kabra Village in the Rajsamand District of the Rajasthan on 3rd January 1996. She comes from a farmer’s family. Her father is Shankar Lal Jat is a farmer and Her mother Nosar Devi is a housewife. Bhavna started her race walk career at the age of 13. At that time, he was introduced to the world of race walk by his PT teacher Mr Hiralal Kumawat and at that time he participated in 3000 meters race and finished second. In this way, a new path was opened for her in the world of race walk and after that Bhavna never looked back. In the early days of her walk race career, she used to run barefoot due to the financial condition of her family.

Achievements of Bhawna Jat:

  • Bhawna Jat won medals in national competitions at the zonal and junior levels during the year 2014 and 2015. Her performance in national level competitions led to her getting a job as a ticket collector with the Indian Railways in Howrah, West Bengal.
  • Bhawna Jat participated in the National Open Race-Walking Championship which was held in Ranchi, Jharkhand in February 2020 and broke the national record by finishing the race in 1 hour 29 minutes 54 seconds, qualifying for Tokyo Olympics 2020. Her aim was to finish this walk race in 1 hour 28 minutes to 1 hour 29 minutes and she achieved that.
  • Fifth position- National Inter-State Championships, 2016 Hyderabad – took 1 hour 52 minutes 38 seconds to finish the race.
  • All India Inter-Railway Athletics Championships, August 2019 Pune -in 20KM took 1 hour 36 minutes 17 seconds to finish the race.
  • National Open Championships, October 2019 – Took 1 hour 38 minutes 30 seconds to finish the race.
  • National Open Race-Walking Championships in Ranchi, 2020 February – Took 1 hour 29 minutes 54 seconds to finish the race.

Biography of Bhawna Jat:

Bhavna defeated all odds and achieved her dream to become a race walker for India and is now going to represent her country in the Olympics. During the start of her career, she used to participate in various district-level tournaments and win medals. From 2011 to 2014, Bhawna Jat participated in various junior level national competitions but could not win any major. In 2015, Bhawna finally won a silver medal in the 20 km race at the junior level national tournament. The same year he won a gold medal in the Junior Federation Cup in the 10 km race and got entry in the SAI Center at Bengaluru. She got trained for 2 years at SAI Center Bengaluru.

In 2019 she participated in Senior Level National Open Race-Walking Championship where she finished 10th and took 1hr 53 min 36 sec to complete this race walk. She worked harder after this race and in 2020 she again participated in Senior Level National Open Race-Walking Championship and broke the national record and completed the race in 1 hour 29 minutes 54 seconds and set a new national record.

Bhawna Jat has come a long way from the village to the national level and achieved a lot. Now she is going to represent India in the Race Walk in Tokyo Olympics 2020. We are hopeful that she will definitely win a medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020
