Staff Selection Commission:-

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an organization headquartered in New Delhi.  It is an organization under Government Of India which conducts exams to recruit staff for various posts in the Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Officer. SSC works as a subordinate Office of Department of  Personnel  and Training (DOPT) . DOPT  consists of  a Chairman, two Members and a Secretary- cum -Controller of examination. Main function of SSC is to conduct competitive exams to recruit  staff for  various Departments of Government.  

Establishment of SSC:-

Establishment of SSC was suggested by the Estimates Committee. In its 47th report committee suggested the setting up of Service Selection Commission to conduct exams for the lower posts in the Department.

On 4th November 1975, Government of India constituted a Subordinate Service Commission in the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms. On 26th November 1977, the Subordinate Service Commission  was renamed as Staff Selection Commission. On 21st May 1999, through the Ministry of Personnel,  Public Grievance the functions of SSC was redefined by the Government of India.

From 1st June 1999, the new constitution and functions of SSC came into force and  from then SSC conducts the SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination for non – gazetted officers to various government jobs. The  Present Chairman of SSC is Mr. Braj Raj Sharma, IAS who joined office on 24th October 2019 by succeeding Mr. Umakant  Gangwar. SSC has conducted following exams in previous years: 

  • SSC Combined Graduate Examination Level ( SSC CGL )

  • SSC Combined Higher Secondary Examination Level (SSC CHSL)

  • Junior Engineer 

  • SSC GD Constable

  • SSC Multitasking Staff 

  • Junior Hindi Translator

  • Stenographer C and D

  • Selection Post

  • SI (Central Police Organization)

SSC is a government job which not only gives you job security but also financial security and salary increment. It also provides promotion irrespective of their social status. One gets promoted based on his/her experience. This exam provides a chance to existing Central Government Staff members. It provides them a huge chance to progress in their life.
