Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SOC from Qualcomm Confirmed

Qualcomm Snapdragon New Chipset Naming

Most of the Android smartphones on the market today run Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. There are several sub-series of Snapdragon chipsets, including a budget, midrange, and premium options. Qualcomm is now separating its Snapdragon line-up as a separate company in an effort to simplify the naming scheme. Chipset names like Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 will no longer be referred to by the familiar 3-digit naming system.

Qualcomm chipsets will not be wearing the 'Qualcomm' badge after the name change. Snapdragon's Snapdragon Tech Summit will be held on November 30, when the company is expected to showcase its next flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 898, which is expected to be announced that day. However, we may get a surprise launch sometime soon. Additionally, Qualcomm has revealed that it will not be using the 5G moniker for its upcoming chipsets since all of the chipsets that will be launched over the next year will support 5G.

What is the new naming system for Qualcomm Snapdragon Chipset?

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

Over 2 billion Snapdragon devices are now in use worldwide, which is a milestone that the company is celebrating. In response to recent rumors, Qualcomm has confirmed that it will adopt a new name for its mobile platforms. Beginning with the newest flagship Snapdragon 8-series platform, all of the names will be accompanied by a single-digit series and generation number. Consequently, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is likely to reach the market next, as well as it's successors.

As a means of identifying the series of chipsets, Snapdragon will use a single-digit number. If it's a flagship-level chipset, it would be preceded by '8' and the generation number. No details have been released on the naming system. According to Qualcomm, it will no longer use three-digit names in its classification system. According to Qualcomm, the digit indicates the category the chipset belongs to, such as 700-series chips, 600-series chips, and 400 series chips in entry-level devices. As the company's flagship series of smartphones, 800-series represents the company's premium product line.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was supposed to be the name of the new flagship chipset. Qualcomm did not reveal the full name of its new flagship Snapdragon 8-series platform. Thus, 8Gx might be the name given to the 8-series chips. The “8cx” chips from Qualcomm are already the standard for laptops that run Windows on ARM. The 8c sits beneath the 8cx, as well as the 7c, which is an entry-level model. The Snapdragon 765 and 765G chipsets, for example, are distinguished by "G" suffixes that indicate higher GPU clock speeds. An "x" simply denotes a high-end product.

Throughout its chipset series (entry-level to flagship), Qualcomm has developed a substantial product portfolio. In order to accommodate the upcoming launches, the manufacturer plans to simplify the naming system. Snapdragon Tech Summit will provide more details. As a result of the new naming system, Snapdragon will become more competitive with other PC chip makers who identify the version of a product.

Snapdragon is to become a stand-alone brand:

Also interesting is Qualcomm's statement that it expects to be less prominent in mobile-related products. To put it simply, Qualcomm is separating its Snapdragon brand from Qualcomm. The Snapdragon brand will become a standalone product line with specific connections to Qualcomm where necessary.
