National Youth Day 2022

Every year on January 12, young people celebrate National Youth Day to commemorate Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary. In 1984, the Indian Government declared it to honor Swami Vivekananda's contribution to the development of Indian society. This is also known as Yuwa Diwas. Every year from January 12 to 16, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports holds a National Youth Festival to commemorate this day.

Each year between 12th and 16th January in India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports hosts the National Youth Festival. In collaboration with one of the states, the festival is organized. Every year, it is held in another state during National Youth Week. 1995 marked the first year of the National Youth Festival (NYF), which was part of the National Integration Camp (NIC). Additionally, the National Youth Parliament Festival (NYPF) is being held in conjunction with the festival.

National Youth Festival: Its Significance

• By celebrating the festival, it promotes national integration.
• This event offers youth an opportunity to display their cultural abilities.
• Young people from across the nation come together to foster a sense of community and brotherhood.
• Swami Vivekananda's key teaching, "It's all in the mind" is the theme of National Youth Day 2022. In addition to preaching religious tolerance, he combined Indian spirituality with western technological advancement. He believed that the two supplements and complement each other perfectly.  
• YUVAAH - Utsah Naye Bharat Ka (The theme symbolizes the youth by allowing them to show off their talents at the National Youth Festival.)

The Importance of National Youth Day:

National Youth Day is held to promote Swami Vivekananda's ideas and philosophy among today's youth, chief among them being rational thinking. In light of the fact that the youth are the country's future, they should live by such ideals and rise to the occasion if their country needs them to do so. So, they can be considered indispensable assets to the overall development and growth of the nation.

NYPF: National Youth Parliament Festival

• During one of his Mann ki Baat sessions in 2017, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the idea of the National Youth Parliament Festival
• The program's objective is to engage young people between 18 and 25 years of age, to provide them with a voice on public issues, to develop their decision-making skills, to acquire respect and tolerance for others' views, and to help them understand the importance of obeying the law.
• The National Youth Parliament Festival took place for the second year in a row in 2021. On the occasion of National Youth Day, the festival's final results were announced at a ceremony on January 12, 2021, following the registration for participation in the festival in December 2020.
• More than 23 lac youth and stakeholders across the country attended the virtual inauguration of the program in 2020. There were 88,00 participants in the program in 2019 and a total of 88,000 in 2020.
