Google v/s the Australian Government

Google & the Australian Government

In today’s world, it’s hard to imagine life without Google and its services? But in the recently developed scenario in Australia,  People across the country may have to face this situation as the tech giant Google has threatened to remove its homepage amid a standoff with the Australian government. Tech giant Google, who controls around 92-95 % of internet searches has said to the Australian government that it'll have "no real choice but to prevent making Google Search available in Australia" if it has made their mind to implement the contentious News Media Bargaining Code.

The News Media Bargaining Code, which has been implemented in Australia over the last two years, has decided to regulate the relations between news outlets of country and tech giants within the country. The code also makes digital giants pay the news outlets for their content and also inform them about the "significant changes to their search and news feed algorithms". The entire world is watching this competition between Google and the Australian government closely, people across the country are worried that how their lives are going to be impacted without the tech giant Google and its services. Bing is also keeping their eyes and following this competition closely between Google and the Australian Government. If Google exit from Australia then they can fill the empty shoes of Google, but it won’t be easy for Bing to fill Google’s Shoes and the same goes for the Yahoo.

So we can say that if Google's exit from Australia may open the doors for its competitors, including Microsoft's Bing and Yahoo, in the country. Experts suggest that Australians also can use DuckDuckGo as their primary program option which is comparatively easy to download doesn't hoover up information.

Australian Government Take on This Whole Scenario?

The Australian government, which will likely bring the bill to the Parliament on February 15, has given hint that it might soften its stand. Prime Minister Scott Morrison had earlier met the Google representatives and said that the meeting "should give them a great encouragement to engage with the process".

"I am ready to send [Google] the simplest possible signals that ought to give them an excellent encouragement to interact with the method and conclude the arrangements we’d wish to see them conclude with the varied journalism organisations in Australia – which is that the best thanks to enabling that interest to be settled," he had said.
