Who is Rishi Sunak:

Born on 12 May 1980, Rishi Sunak is a British politician and is currently the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Previously, he served as Chief Secretary to the Treasury from 2019 to 2020 for the Conservative Party. In North Yorkshire, he represents Richmond (Yorks) constituency since 2015.

Educated at Winchester College, Sunak grew up in Southampton to British Indian parents who migrated from East Africa. Following his undergraduate studies at the University of Oxford, he earned a Fulbright Scholarship to study philosophy, politics, and economics at Stanford University. He met his future wife Akshata Murthy while studying at Stanford, the daughter of Indian billionaire businessman N R Narayana Murthy. His first job out of school was at Goldman Sachs, and later he became a partner with the hedge fund firms The Children's Investment Fund Management and Theleme Partners.

During Theresa May's second government, he was the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government. Three times he voted in favor of May's Brexit withdrawal agreement. Sunak supported Boris Johnson's campaign for the Conservative leadership after May resigned. Johnson appointed Sunak as Treasury Chief Secretary after becoming Prime Minister. A key part of Sunak's work as Chancellor has been to help the government respond to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom.

He married Akshata Murthy in August 2009, the daughter of billionaire N R Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys. The couple met at Stanford University, where they both studied. Krishna and Anoushka are the couple's two daughters. Akshata is a director at Catamaran Ventures, her father's investment firm, and runs her own fashion brand. As an owner of Catamaran Ventures, she is one of the richest women in Britain with shares worth £430m.
