Where is papaya found and grown?
Papaya originally came from South America. It was brought to India by the Portuguese people 400 years ago. It seems that earlier it has come to the country of Kerala in South India. The people of Kerala call it 'Kappakaya'. The meaning of Kappakaya is a fruit that came from the ship, so it is inferred that it is not an Indian fruit. It was probably first landed off the coast of Kerala by ship. That is why it still has a special abundance in the country of Kerala. Its original place of origin is South America, but now it is found in homes and gardens in more or less evidence throughout India. Papayas of Mumbai, Poona, Bangalore, Chennai, and Ranchi are considered to be famous and exquisite.
